For as far back as I can remember, I have been fascinated with the inner workings of the human brain. As an organ, studying the general nomenclature is interesting, but our mental minutia is what grabs me. By far, the greatest creation in the Universe, I wanted to know what makes it tick.
Shortly after my father’s suicide, I redoubled my effort to learn all that I could about the 3 pounds of gray matter that is the pinnacle of our nervous system. How could a mind turn on itself, to such a degree, that killing itself could actually make sense?
I have come to believe, that the mind is like any other muscle in the body. You can build your brain with exercises of progressive adaptation. Unfortunately, your mind can also atrophy, like the muscles around a broken limb, if you fail to use it.
“Use it or lose it” is a Total Body Mantra.

Building on the concept of Mind-Ups, a term I coined shortly after my dad’s death, I will be looking at the things you can do to make your mind and your brain as rock-hard-tough and Phat-free as possible.
**In the interest of full disclosure, I am not a doctor or a psychologist.** I have recovered from the suicides of three family members and friends and have come to believe that the ability to do so, and to face all of life’s challenges head on, is buried within us.
