No more apologies from Wilson for outburst against President

Published on September 13th, 2009

First, the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. Our Constitution.

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

Second, I fully understand that Congress can adopt “house rules” in dealing with the membership.

Seems to me that Representative Wilson apologized for his inappropriate outburst. President Obama accepted his apology. Wilson says he “would never do something like that again.”  The President then moved on when Wilson “apologized quickly and unequivocally, and I’m appreciative of that,” the president said.

Was it rude and uncouth? Yes

Did it lack decorum? Yes

Was it criminal? Far from it.

So why are House Democrats planning to censure Wilson if he refuses to apologize on the House of Representatives floor this week? Two Words.

Nancy Pelosi.

Here is my question. If Speaker Pelosi is planning  a Censure vote for “inappropriate behavior” from her members, how will she ever get to her vast duties of governance?

Can you say “House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charles Rangel?”
