U.N. Working on a “strong resolution with teeth” for North Korea

Published on May 27th, 2009

As the United Nations Security council busies itself with how to respond to North Korea’s recent military excursions, Kim Jong-il threatens South Korea, Japan and the United States with further aggressive actions.

Here’s the good news. Thankfully, the U.N. has it collective finger on the pulse of Pyongyang.

According to CNN,  “After passing a nonbinding statement of criticism Monday, the Security Council is now working on passing ‘a strong resolution with teeth,’ said U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice.”  She went on to say,  “Those teeth could take various different forms — there are economic levers, there are other levers that we might pursue.”

Great. We go from a U.N. Security Council statement of “criticism” to the threatening of canines and cuspids. “Don’t push us North Korea or you’ll get our collective, toothy snarl.”  Just how irrelevant must one feel being a United Nations Ambassador?

I would like just one questioned answered. The next time, and there will be a next time with Kim Jong-il, will we use our teeth to growl or to bite?

Right, It is getting to the point of what are we going to do about it? We are getting dared by North Korea to stop them. The question is how long are we going to continue to allow them to do this. Japan and South Korea are not going to put up with this much longer. We let this go, next time this nut will have missle armed with a nuclear warhead. If the U.N. can not stop this with force then they are a useless organization. The U.S. can not continue to solve every problem it only brings resentment from the rest of the world. This is going to only get worse, Obama thought he could just “extend his hand”. I voted for the guy, but I am starting to question if his administration can handle problems like North Korea. If we led a coalitlition to topple Saddam for supposed chemical weapons, we look like hypocrites if we allow North Korea Nukes!
