It has been my goal to travel North America discovering wild places, down the open road and off the beaten path, all the while reporting on breaking news, commentary and techniques for surviving and thriving in the 21st Century. An importing part of that adventure is my Mobile Base Camp, a Lance Truck Camper powered by the natural energies of the sun, wind and rain.

An additional component in reporting my explorations and interviews falls into the category of both the BuriedLogic Audio blog posts and the BuriedLogic Podcasts. Thanks to the technology from the satellite experts MotoSat Advanced Mobile Satellite Systems I am now able to do so from anywhere I go. The new F2 DataStorm from MotoSat was installed on The Mobile Base Camp yesterday at their facilities in Salt Lake City.

It is always an honor to hang with Keith McCord and the crew at KSL TV here in Salt Lake City. Keith was the first TV anchor/reporter that I worked with during the Winter Olympics when they were in town.

Whenever I am here for the Outdoor Retailer Show, I try to catch up with him.

RV enthusiasts of all sizes (I call them explorers because that’s truly what they are) have some uphill challenges. The MSNBC.com article written by Roland Jones highlights both increasing fuel prices as well as financing struggles. If you missed it, here is the full article.

For many 21st century explorers, all of these challenges are countered by the freedom to find adventure where we find ourselves. The spirit of exploration an RV provides is hard to match. Adventure needn’t be extreme, it just needs to be ours and when you grab the opportunity to wake up and explore at your own level, your own pace and your own schedule, the uphills are just another part of the adventure. My mobile base camp, the Lance Camper 1181 on a Ford F350 Super Duty is my “modern-day covered wagon” to quote Stewart Schaffer of Lazy Days RV center in Florida in the above MSNBC.com article. With everything going on in the world today, a “little bit of breathtaking” (as I call it) is the perfect prescription and today’s explorers know how to find it.

I first met Keith McCord at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. He reported for KSL TV, the local NBC affiliate, on my efforts teaching people at the games how to “dress and face the winter” along with other outdoor survival techniques. We had the chance to catch up once again while at the 2008 Outdoor Retailer Show.

The 2008 Wonder, Explore, Believe National Tour has been a real learning experience. As I grew from the interactions with the people I met and the adventures along the way, the “Mobile Base Camp” changed as well. I was very excited to show Keith McCord the current evolution of my Lance Camper with six 85 watt Kyocera PV’s (solar electric panels), an Air Breeze Wind Turbine along with the rain harvesting system provided by Katadyn, just to mention a few “add-ons”.
