Now that the BP oil explosion has allegedly been contained, seems the next thing the federal government and the gang [...]

Now that the BP oil explosion has allegedly been contained, seems the next thing the federal government and the gang in Washington may want to cap is the bubbling American angst. You needn’t dive miles beneath the surface of the Gulf of Mexico to detect the growing distrust many Americans feel towards Congress and the White House. The geyser of government dissatisfaction is only going to get worse.

According to a recent Gallup Poll, Americans view Immigration policy, poor healthcare, natural disaster response, Federal budget deficit, fuel costs, wars, “lack of money,” Afghanistan and even the war in Iraq as lesser problems than “dissatisfaction with government/Congress/politicians; poor leadership; corruption; abuse of power.” Only the economy and unemployment ranked higher than Uncle Sam as “important problems” confronting our country.

Hello. This would be laughable if it didn’t directly effect our lives.

This should rattle our politicians and elected officials more than the 3.6 magnitude earthquake that struck the DC area early this morning.

Reminder: Only 6 days left until the debut of The Brian Brawdy Show. Talk about feeling like an aftershock to the Capitol Hill gang.

BREAKING NEWS: U.S. looking to become “The most gullible country on the planet.” Just how easy are we to persuade [...]

BREAKING NEWS: U.S. looking to become “The most gullible country on the planet.” Just how easy are we to persuade or deceive? How totally gullible must we seem to politicians, corporate America, lobbyists and media reporters? Watch any news cycle, read any group of blog posts and you truly have to actively suspend your sense of intelligence, your disbelief and your gut feelings or intuition. As we’re spoon-fed the spin, we seem content sucking it up and swallowing it down. It seems that believing the bravado and BS, duped by the disinformation is now a U.S. pastime.

How thick or how shallow, how dense or foolish must one be to drink the constant flow of Kool-Aid we are offered these days? True, the vapid and the vacuous walk among us. You can’t debate it. That said, what percentage of the voting population falls for the fairy-tail du jour each and every day?

Now I know what you are thinking. President Obama can stop the oil gusher in the Gulf of Mexico, BP didn’t brake and rules or laws leading up to the disaster, President Clinton didn’t offer Joe Sestak a position of value to drop out of the race with Arlen Specter, the National Guard will stop illegal immigration on our southern border, and the health care bill isn’t about redistributing of wealth and on and on and on. Blah, blah, blah.

Soon you will find a daily “Gullibility Index” here on BrianBrawdy.com. Not unlike a UV or Pollen index, graded on a scale of 1-10, each day I will follow the stories making news and, with the help of my friends on Facebook, Twitter and MySpace will calculate a mathematical dip-stick highlighting just how naive you and I would have to be to trust in what we are being told.

It’s not about conspiracy theories, it’s about common sense, which of late, isn’t as common or as sensical as the term would suggest.

Nearly a month after the BP Deepwater Horizon oil rig ruptured and began polluting the Gulf of Mexico, our Interior [...]

Nearly a month after the BP Deepwater Horizon oil rig ruptured and began polluting the Gulf of Mexico, our Interior Secretary offered the following promise. “If we find that they’re not doing what they’re supposed to be doing, we’ll push them out of the way,” said Ken Salazar. “We’ll push them out of the way.” Hmmm. OK.

Fast forward to today when, during a White House Press conference focusing on the man-made disaster, Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allen was asked to respond to the earlier comments of Sec. Salazar. Raising an eyebrow, shrugging his shoulders and turning his palms skyward, he answered the question with a question, “and replace them with what?” He continued that the United States has neither the “competence, capability or capacity” to answer a disaster at 5000 feet beneath the surface of the Gulf.

Moments later on Fox News Studio B with Shepard Smith, White House spokesperson David Axelrod concurred saying the United States was not equipped to take over the sealing of the damaged pipeline. So, bottom line? In spite of all the strong words and soundbites we can’t “push them out of the way.” We don’t need tough words, we need tough actions. We don’t need bravado Mr. Secretary; we need to blow the well, seal it and save the affected Gulf shores.

Though that action will cause British Petroleum to loose not only the oil reservoir but the billions in invested and future dollars, tough luck.

Disclaimer: I firmly believe that any Heaven run by a God that would threaten you with Hell, is no Heaven [...]

Disclaimer: I firmly believe that any Heaven run by a God that would threaten you with Hell, is no Heaven at all. Nor do I find myself a fan of the fire and brimstone/Armageddon motif. Though it puts me in contrast with the Bible, the “vengeful” bent in God is way overplayed. Now I know about the banishment from the Garden of Eden, the 40 Day Flood and a whole host of plagues yet still don’t see God as an arm-twisting, leg-braking destructive deity. Sorry, I just don’t see God as a bully.

You sure wouldn’t know it of late. If something bad is happening in the world, God is the instigator, the perpetrator and the culprit.

Pat Robertson targets God as the cause of destruction in Haiti, Rush Limbaugh votes God the cause of the Volcano eruption in Iceland. Last month Islamic clerics claimed that provocatively dressed young women provoked God to unleash the recent rash of earthquakes, and now Governor Rick Perry accuses God of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill while British Petroleum lays it on “the Lord.” Massive numbers still blame God for the Indonesian Tsunami. Talk about ruining a reputation with slander and libel. Wow.

When it comes to natural disasters, do we always have to find a super-natural power to lay it on? At the very least, couldn’t someone accuse Satan of any of this crap; the Devil made the earth do it?

Since the earliest days of humankind, cavemen and cavewomen saw lightning hit a tree and decried the heavenly deity of their day. Zuess with his lightning bolt, Poseidon with his trident is an old literary feature. Wouldn’t you think we could have grown up a bit, perhaps surrender ancient myths of God’s wrath and mayhem?

Seems to me the only ones still bent on “highlighting” God’s coercion are those that do so purely for their own benefit. They threaten and intimidate because it is their “will be done” and it has nothing to do with God.
