			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>It&#8217;s easy to blame politicians, the government, the bureaucrats when it comes to many issues of our day. But I found a very interesting story today that I can only describe as The Wussification of the <strong><em><a title="Wussification of White House Press Corps" href="http://www.whitehousepresscorps.org/" target="_blank">White House Press Corps</a></em></strong>. If ever, according to the article, there was a time for true investigative reporting now we have journalists covering the White House that are too busy genuflecting and jotting down administration talking points to get any real investigative reporting done.</p>
<p>In the <strong><em><a title="Wussification of White House Reporters" href="http://www.usnews.com/news/blogs/washington-whispers/2011/05/17/veteran-journalists-todays-white-house-reporters-are-too-timid" target="_blank">article</a></em></strong> buy U.S.News, <em>Veteran Journalists: Today&#8217;s White House Reporters are Too Timid</em>, the case is made that many in the current crop of reporters need to buck up a bit and remember what their responsibilities truly are. Asking a group of veteran reporters about today&#8217;s gaggle, they labeled them &#8220;weak imitations of their Cold War predecessor&#8221; and quotes one seasoned journalist as saying they act like &#8220;they are in the room with a Monarch.&#8221;</p>
<p>If we are going to keep the protections of the 1st Amendment and it&#8217;s underlying free press, seems like we may want to exercise that press from time, what do you say press corps?</p>
<p>I&#8217;ve offered, many times in the past, my complaint that we treat politicians like <strong><em><a title="rockstars" href="http://www.brianbrawdy.com/hero-worship-superhuman/" target="_blank">r</a><a title="rockstars and superheros " href="http://www.brianbrawdy.com/hero-worship-superhuman/" target="_blank">ock stars and superheroes</a></em></strong>. Now, seems I can throw reporters under the buss for bowing down to those &#8220;public servants&#8221; we elect&#8230;Then again, seems many of us are terribly interested in the celebrity status of those in Capitol Hill. Maybe there&#8217;s enough blame to go around!</p>

<p>We now live in an age where ignoring the actions of our elected officials and the bureaucrats they empower is a dangerous and personal mistake. Perhaps unlike any time in our past, we cannot afford to keep our heads in the sand and let our government at all levels&#8211;from City Call to Capitol Hill run unchecked and unencumbered. Now, this is not a critique on President Obama or President Bush, the Democrats or the GOP. I find both parties to have a hand in our recent downturn. It is however, about the political class mindset of control and manipulation, about the habitual use of our Constitution as a simple speed bump, something they pay homage as they work behind the scenes to hijack it!</p>
<p>I have always believed in the words of the 17th Century French philosopher Jean-Jaque Rousseau&#8230;&#8221;Man is born free and everywhere he (she) is in chains.&#8221;  Or as Oliver Wendall Holmes Jr. wrote, “We are all tattooed in our cradles with the beliefs of our tribe; the record may seem superficial, but it is indelible.&#8221; The Irishman in me can&#8217;t leave this thought without dropping a bit of James Joyce into the mix. &#8220;When the soul of man is born in this country there are nets flung at it to hold it back from flight.&#8221; Yesterday I launched the premiere video for The Brian Brawdy Show, Liberty&#8217;s line in the sand. The show is my way of reminding us that we were all born free but that now the chains, tattoos and nets that move to restrict our freedoms are ubiquitous and growing stronger every day.</p>
<p>I believe that each of us is a naturally born libertarian, that our birthright of freedom and liberty were in fact &#8220;<a href="http://www.brianbrawdy.com/libertarians-limited-government-child-care/" target="_blank"><em><strong>endowed by our creator</strong></em></a>&#8221; but of late the shellac and varnish of government and statism is slowing blocking our pores and choking us out. The goal of Liberty&#8217;s Line in the Sand will be to fight that slow suffocation one broadcast, one road trip, one mind at a time. As for why I choose an RV for a studio? I&#8217;m taking this fight on the road.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.brianbrawdy.com/freedom-liberty-your-children/" target="_blank"><em><strong>President Reagan</strong></em></a><em><strong> </strong></em>once said, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.” I&#8217;m not ready to throw my grandchildren under the bus just yet. Are you?</p>
<p>Final quote, I promise, is by Dr. Robert Anthony. “The opposite of bravery is not cowardice but conformity.”</p>
<p>The chains, tattoos and nets attached to us by the &#8220;government as God&#8221; mindset have unfortunately grown to a level of normalcy in our society. In all cases though, that something is normal does not necessarily make it natural. We cannot surrender our natural liberty and freedom no matter how normal that abdication may seem. Conformity is not natural!</p>
<p>It&#8217;s up to each of us to become political survival experts, to pass on to our children and grandchildren the liberty so many now take for granted.</p>

It&#8217;s one of those moments when you do a double take wondering if you&#8217;re listening to a Saturday Night Live skit masquerading as a news story. You laugh, you shake your head and then you sit there, utterly speechless&#8230;.jaw-droppingly-utterly speechless.</p>
<p>Nancy, Nancy, Nancy.</p>
<p>There is a story (and Audio) highlighted on The Washington Times, that you just have to hear to believe. Before clicking on the link below, I have a quick couple of questions.</p>
<p>1. How does one gain control by acting truly out of control? Speaker Pelosi wields enormous power in and out of the <a href="http://brianbrawdy.com/stupak-cushy-deal-abortion-vote/" target="_blank"><em><strong>House of Reprehensibles</strong></em></a>, yet her power-grabbing narcissism is so profound she now wants the power to control the questions reporters ask her and the identities of those who dare to oppose her? Are you kidding me?</p>
<p>According to the Speaker, &#8220;There is no question there is a concerted effort to make this a political issue by some. And I join those who have called for looking into how is this opposition to the mosque being funded,&#8221; she said. &#8220;How is this being ginned up that here we are talking about Treasure Island, something we&#8217;ve been working on for decades, something of great interest to our community as we go forward to an election about the future of our country and two of the first three questions are about a zoning issue in New York City.&#8221;</p>
<p>Who are the &#8220;others&#8221; she is joining? What ever happened to free speech and a free press? How is the Mosque controversy not on her radar? How narcissistic and delusional can the Speaker be?</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Do you ever get tired of hearing how lucky we are as a nation to have those selfless souls, career politicians of all levels, who dedicate their lives to &#8220;public service?&#8221; Their devotion, sacrifice and commitment to serving the public good is a blessing to us all.</p>
<p>Oh, please. Good Grief!</p>
<p>Many politicians are about perks and profit, about the trappings and benefits of holding public office&#8230;Period. We treat them like <a href="http://brianbrawdy.com/politicians-wanna-be-big-rockstars/" target="_blank"><em><strong>rock stars</strong></em></a> and they hang out on stage <a href="http://brianbrawdy.com/career-politicians-entitlements-term-limits/" target="_blank"><em><strong>for as long as is humanly possible</strong></em></a>, waiting for one last encore. The Capitol Hill Huggers, I like to call them.</p>
<p>We give them great pay, all kinds of power, press conferences, free medical care, expense accounts, some even get body guards and chauffeurs. Tough gig! Poor guy and gals. My heart goes out to them.</p>
<p>True public service? Look to those who put their lives on the line everyday. Police officers, fireman/firewomen, all the military branches, paramedics and rescue services deserve the accolades. When it comes to public service, many <em>politicians are self-absorbed posers and panderers</em>.</p>
<p>Maybe we could select our politicians like we call our jurors into service. Like a lottery system. Your name comes up on the list, and we make you a Senator. At the very least we could then truly call them &#8220;public servants.&#8221;</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I&#8217;m beginning to believe that good old Ben Franklin was on to something when he wrote &#8220;Guests, like fish, begin to stink after three days.&#8221; That said, do you ever wonder if our elected officials overstay their welcome? Is there a political tipping point, a time when it&#8217;s simply time to go?</p>
<p>I don&#8217;t know about you, but I never thought of  &#8220;<em>The Hill</em>&#8221; as a retirement community.</p>
<p>According to Section 1, “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice…” Why not make the 22nd Amendment to our Constitution applicable to the President <a href="http://brianbrawdy.com/cleansing-political-gene-pool/" target="_blank"><strong>and</strong></a><a href="http://brianbrawdy.com/cleansing-political-gene-pool/" target="_blank"><strong> members of Congress</strong></a><strong>? </strong>Why not take all the passion and energy surrounding the health care debate and use it for common good? What say we move for a true &#8220;reform plan&#8221; that begins with term limits for Congress?</p>
<p>The current group of &#8220;Hill Huggers&#8221; isn&#8217;t going anywhere without a fight. True. But perhaps we can start chipping away at the entrenched entitlement of career politicians one ballot at a time. No more vote manipulation, no more monopoly of power through gerrymandering. When we vote next time, lets give them a two-term-ticket.</p>
<p>Now for those of you suggesting that a <em>regulated retirement </em>for lifelong legislatures is a bad idea, I would turn your attention to the health care signing ceremony at the White House yesterday. After all the pomp, photo ops and pulpit pounding it was time for President Obama to <em>put the pen to paper</em> making it the law. Oh, but wait a minute. The President didn&#8217;t put <em>a pen</em> to the paper, he put <a href="http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=125072298" target="_blank"><em><strong>22 pens</strong></em></a> to paper, marking tiny fractions of his signature, slowly, methodically until he finished.  Just to write the letter B for Barak took like 2 pens. Are you kidding me? Second graders are able to sign their names faster. After the press left did they turn out the lights and put their heads on the desk for quite time? Did they wake in time for afternoon snacks of juice and crackers?</p>
<p>Stop for just a second and think about the insanity. <em>22 pens</em>? I don&#8217;t know about you, but when we make the most powerful man in the world sign his name like he was learning cursive penmanship for the very first time, just so a few career politicians get a souvenir pen, it&#8217;s time for a mental health checkup. <em>22 pens</em>? And these are the people we repeatedly put in office?</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I don&#8217;t even know where to start. I&#8217;m kind of lost. Let&#8217;s see. One billion hours is equivalent to roughly 115,000 years and it would take you 3 million years to live a billion days. That didn&#8217;t help.</p>
<p>Ok, let&#8217;s try this. Our planet is in the ballpark of 4.5 billion years old while the Universe itself comes in around 14 billion years. 14 billion years since the Big Bang. Nope. That didn&#8217;t help all that much either. Astronomical doesn&#8217;t even touch it.</p>
<p>There are only 6.8 billion people on earth.</p>
<p>How does one make the incomprehensible clear and coherent? Can the unfathomable ever be explained?</p>
<p>Today, when the Congressional Budget Office handed Speaker Pelosi and President Obama the check for the health care bill, some on Capitol Hill and across the country, applauded the <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/03/18/AR2010031801153_pf.html" target="_blank"><em><strong>940 billion dollar price tag</strong></em></a>. Other politicians and pundits boasted that the <a href="http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100318/ap_on_bi_ge/us_health_care_overhaul" target="_blank"><em><strong>CBO calculated</strong></em></a> the costs at under &#8220;a trillion dollars.&#8221;</p>
<p>Clearly there is not enough time in all of human, planetary and universal history to match, one for one, unit for unit, the cost of  this &#8220;<a href="http://brianbrawdy.com/pelosi-historic-health-care/" target="_blank"><em><strong>historic</strong></em></a>&#8221; vote.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m not sure I will ever truly comprehend <em>940,000,000,000</em> dollars; I guess I do have something in common with the President.</p>
