Reflections on the Eve of “Historic” Health Care Reform

Published on March 18th, 2010

When we send local politicians to “The Hill” we do so presuming they will be as helpful as possible to the electorate back home. At the very least, we suppose that their actions–and votes–won’t be hurtful. We trust them with our collective vote; they represent us in our absence, they speak on our behalf. Kind of the deal we strike.

That said, watch the egos this week in Congress clamoring for the microphones and cameras, regardless of how the health-care vote turns out. Most are more concerned with writing history than with writing true, meaningful health care reform.

I don’t know about you but I didn’t send anyone to Washington to be “Historic.”

President Obama isn’t concerned with the “procedural rules” in the House or Senate, so he says.

Let ‘em deem it, let ‘em reconcile it, let ‘em pass it in any form they like.  So be it.

History has a long memory.
