Bachmann ‘absolutely’ not Backing Down from ‘gangster government’ charge

Published on April 23rd, 2010

Do you have a pet peeve? Or perhaps a list of things that tick you off? For me, I don’t like rude people, red light cameras and the fact that the worst roads in our country are always tollways; which is why I avoid the West Virginia Turnpike like the plague. Forget “cash for clunkers” how about using some of the cash you collect at your booths for concrete Mountaineers?

Of all my dislikes, the dreaded double standard tops my list. I suspect it’s a vestige from a childhood of “Do as I say Brian, not as I do.”

Today, a curious double standard presents itself in the coverage of Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann. Seems many media types are upset with her original, and subsequently restated belief that we are controlled by a “gangster government.” Now, agree or disagree with her, I don’t care. Whether she is correct or not doesn’t concern me.

What does trouble me a bit is the word “gansta” and the first time I heard it used in discussing President Obama. Wait a minute…

CNN contributor Roland Martin suggested that our President “go gangsta” and “channel his inner Al Capone.” To quote a friend of mine, “Right, right, right, right.”

Roland Martin can use the term but Michelle Bachmann takes the heat? Really? Why? Because one is a black, male democrat and one a white, female republican?

Forget that the Mr. Obama took his advice, after all he did use reconciliation to get “health care” passed. Again, dig the term or don’t dig the term; who cares.

If it’s ok for Roland should it not also be ok for Michelle?
